AUT is the youngest of the 8 New Zealand universities and the only one to be established since the 1960s but its history in industry-relevant education is over 110 years old. It has more than 19,000 national and international students studying full time in various programmes and courses. About 61% of its total student population comprises of females.

AUT offers two different campuses to its students: the largest being the City Campus and the North Shore Campus. A free bus shuttles daily between the two campuses at scheduled timings.
