Diploma in Bicultural Journalism (Level 5) – 1 year, full time
To achieve the award of the Diploma in Bicultural Journalism students must pass a total of 120 credits including:
- • 60 compulsory credits;
- • 30 credits from the Options List; and
- • 30 elective credits at Level 4 or above.
Course Content
Core Courses include Introduction to News Gathering & Processing; News Writing; News Gathering, Processing, Principles & Work Experience; Analysis in the Media
Optional Courses include Skills in recording; Civic, Court, Law and Ethics; Publications skills & feature writing for a variety of media; Introduction to TV and Radio News Production; Ethnic Diversity in the Media
Elective Courses: Students are required to do a total of 30 elective credits from any Waiariki course(s) at Level 4 or above.
National Diploma in Journalism (Multimedia) (Level 5)
To achieve the award of the National Diploma in Journalism (Multimedia) (Level 5), students must pass the unit standards as specified in the NZQA criteria for this qualification from the following courses:

Analysis in the Media
Civic, Court, Law and Ethics
Publications Skills & Feature Writing for a Variety of Media
Introduction to TV & Radio News Production
