Meet rising star British film-maker Tajinder Hayer, fresh from his Filmraro experience, and view his latest short film.

Hayer has written for BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Peshkar Productions and Menagerie Theatre Company. He has taught on the Creative Writing degree at the University of Bradfordsince 2004.

He will screen his short film and discuss the Filmraro experience at this special event co-hosted by AUT University's Pacific Media Centre and the British Council.

Filmraro is a community and cultural exchange organised by Auckland company Drum Productions Ltd, where six crews from around the world travel to Rarotonga and work with locals to make six  short movies which will premiere in Rarotonga on May 25.

In return, the team work with, and mentor, locals as cast and crew in a bid to turn Rarotonga in to a film-tourism hub - "Cookiwood."

Most importantly, the locals gain the capacity to tell their own stories digitally preserving language, heritage, culture and identity.

Hayer will speak about his experience as a film-maker from a minority ethnic group, producing a dialogue-free movie, in a completely foreign environment. Facilitated by Ingrid Leary.

When: Thursday, May 30, 5.30-6.30pm

Where: WG808 (Sir Paul Reeves Building, AUT University)
