SUVA: Fiji Media Watch is calling on organisers of children’s events to take their responsibilities seriously, particularly when showing video clips or media messages.

The call comes after the showing of a sexually explicit video clip during the recent schools "Tadra Kahani" stage show organised by Communications Fiji Ltd.

Fiji Media Watch executive director Agatha Ferei says the mistake should not have been allowed to happen in the first place, as it was a public domain and the target audience ranged from 6 to 18 years.

Ferei says there is a need to continue working together to increase children’s understanding and enjoyment of how the media works and how they construct reality.

She adds that it is extremely important that Fiji’s population of media consumers be educated on how media messages are constructed. - Fiji Broadcasting Corporation/Pacific Media Watch
