PORT MORESBY (Islands Business/Pacnews/Pacific Media Watch): Television in Papua New Guinea is going digital after a deal between EMTV and Click TV.
All Click TV viewers will have access to EMTV on a nationwide digital platform.
“The carriage of EMTV on Click TV marks a significant milestone for all operators. It means that NBC and EMTV are available together nationwide on a DTH service for the very first time. It’s an exciting achievement for all broadcasters in PNG," Click TV’s managing director Richard Broadbridge said.
Broadbridge formerly owned MaiTV in Fiji after leaving Fiji TV where he was head of programmes.
EMTV has provided Click TV the approval to carry the channel on the Click TV platform, allowing many viewers live in areas outside normal transmission towers to access EMTV.
The move comes just before the 2017 General Election in June allowing viewers in all provinces access to important information leading to the vote and count.
“We are excited about the partnership, because everyone in PNG should have the right to access television services, especially free-to-air channels such as EMTV,” said Matthew Park, CEO of EMTV.
“It also means the TV industry in PNG is growing and this is extremely exciting for viewers, broadcasters and the nation as a whole”.
