SUVA: The Public Emergency Regulations (PER) in Fiji have been extended yet again.
According to a gazetted notice, Pacnews reports that President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has extended the regulations for another 30 days, effective from last Thursday.
Earlier this month, the permanent Secretary for Information, Sharon Smith-Johns, said the Emergency Regulations were under constant review and could be lifted at any time.
The regulations restrict public assembly and what information can be published or broadcast in the media.
They were first introduced when the constitution was made invalid in April last year.
The regime said it would lift the restriction once it had imposed a media decree but the decree came into force in June and the regime has reneged on that undertaking. - Radio NZ International/Pacific Media Watch
