AUCKLAND (Radio 95bFM The Wire/Southern Cross/Pacific Media Watch): The United Nation's nuclear weapon ban treaty is the focus of the Pacific Media Centre's weekly Southern Cross radio programme in the wake of Hiroshima, Nagasaki atomic bomb commemorations.

Pacific Media Watch freedom project editor Kendall Hutt interviews Kozue Akibayashi, international president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, about New Zealand's nuclear-free legacy and its responsibility to lead the treaty's ratification.

Akibayashi also speaks with Hutt about the consequences of the increasing US presence in the Asia-Pacific region, its ties to notions of ensuring regional security and the abscence of demilitarisation.
