SUVA (The Fiji Times / Pacific Media Watch): The University of the South Pacific's Regional Journalism School has welcomed its new head, Dr Ian Weber.
Dr Weber, who has a wealth of experience, has taken over from Dr Marc Edge, who left the country late last year.
In accepting his new role, Dr Weber said he could not be happier, given that he had worked at the school on a contractual basis for a period last year.
"It is an absolute pleasure to come back. in fact, I never wanted to leave. It's really exciting to be back though and I'm looking forward to developing the programme here," he said at an afternoon tea hosted by the school's students.
Dr Weber previously worked in Saudi Arabia when he was offered a position by Professor Sudesh Mishra, head of USP's School of Language, Arts and the Media (SLAM).
"This is a wonderful environment to work in and the staff are extremely supportive. Let's work together to make this one of the best world class programmes we possibly can."
He said the programme was considering the possibility of developing gender and media courses.
