Sophie Aroha Johnson (Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngapuhi) is a postgraduate student studying towards her Master of Communication Studies at AUT University.
She started out at AUT as a Certificate student in 2006, and in 2009 she completed her Bachelor of Communication Studies, majoring in video production.
Johnson went straight into the Masters programme where she was offered a Graduate Teaching Assistantship through Te Ara Poutama, the Faculty of Māori Development. She continues to work there as part of the Māori media team while she completes her thesis on Māori documentary in New Zealand.
She is contributing items to the PMC niusblog from the Nepal Indigenous Film Festival and - along with John Pulu - made a short documentary about the work of the PMC in November 2009.
