SUVA: The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation will now be similar to other state-owned enterprises such as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) with the enactment of a new spectrum plan for the country, says FBC's chief executive Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the new spectrum plan, which will see radio and television stations in Fiji allocated new frequencies, will ensure Fiji becomes one of the first Pacific countries to move into the digital age with proper spectrum planning.
Under the new spectrum plan, an additional national television programme channel will be commissioned through the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.
Sayed-Khaiyum says FBC’s entry into the free-to-air television market, together with its current PSB broadcast services, will position it as a major source of information and entertainment for all Fijians.
A workshop on the roll-out plan for the new spectrum is being held today.
Sayed-Khaiyum says FBC will adhere to the timelines given by government. - Fiji Broadcasting Corporation/Pacific Media Watch
