AUCKLAND (bFM / Pacific Media Centre): The escalating violence in the provinces of Papua and West Papua came to a new head recently with the killing of activist Mako Tabuni. Coupled with this, the Auckland-based Indonesia Human Rights Committee has published a release saying it was "shocked" to learn that the New Zealand Defence Force hosted an officer from the Kopassus Indonesian force that has been linked to violent attacks in the provinces.

As the issues continue to fly under the radar of most mainstream media, Greens Parliamentarians in New Zealand (Catherine Delahunty) and Australia (Richard Di Natale) have taken to the media as well as Parliament to voice their concern.

Pacific Media Watch contributing editor Alex Perrottet spoke to bFM's Anna Bracewell-Worrall about the ongoing crisis, as well as the reliability of news reports and media sources from the province.
