SUVA (Fijivillage.com /Pacific Media Watch): Fiji's 1987 coup leader Sitiveni Rabuka says that it is up to the people of the country to forgive him for his actions.
A young woman named Kajol who was part of a panel discussion at the University of the South Pacific last night told Rabuka that her family was victimised in the 1987 coup and she cannot forgive him for what he did until - and unless - he reveals the names of people who encouraged him to lead the coup.

Rabuka said that he could only ask for forgiveness but does not expect people to forgive him.

In the panel discussion at USP, many people asked Rabuka to reveal the names of the people but he said we should forget about the past and think of the future.
Rabuka said that only he was to blame for what happened in 1987.
Rabuka included the immunity provision for his coup actions in 1987 and onwards in the 1990 and 1997 constitutions. This has also been included in the new 2012 draft constitution.
