SUVA (Fiji Broadcasting News/Pacific Media Watch): Classes at the University of the South Pacific’s regional journalism programme in Suva have been disrupted after the sudden departure of the head, Associate Professor Ian Weber.
Dr Weber is understood to have tendered his resignation.
Classes were to begin from Monday, but since Dr Weber’s departure no lessons have been held.
There are also no teaching assistants for the journalism classes.
Journalism students have been told that the dean of the School of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM), Dr Akanisi Kedreyate, will meet with them on Monday.
Dr Weber was confirmed as the coordinator a year ago.
FBC News has sent questions to the USP’s media relations officer.
PMW reports: In a parting shot at USP, Weber blamed "favouritism, lack of consultation and unethical pressure" on him in a posting on the Friends of Media Fiji facebook page. This was also quoted by Fijileaks.
