AUCKLAND: Jim Simon, assistant managing editor of the Seattle Times and leader of his newspaper's team that won a Pulitzer Prize this year, has joined the keynote speakers for the Media, Investigative Journalism and Technology 2010 conference @ AUT University on December 4/5. He has taught investigative journalism in Indonesia, Philippines and East Timor.

Jim will be contributing along with Kunda Dixit, editor of the Nepali Times, Associate Professor Wendy Bacon of the Australian Centre for Independent Journalism and leading independent New Zealand investigative journalist and author Nicky Hager.

Several investigative documentary filmmakers will also be conducting workshops on current projects, including Jim Marbrook of AUT University who is close to completing a major feature film on nickel mining, indigenous land and the environment in New Caledonia. Investigative journalists from Fiji and Papua New Guinea will be featured along with an exhibition of photojournalism - "Frames of War".

Parallel to an investigative journalism "masterclass" on the Sunday will be a peace journalism workshop featuring journalism educators from Fiji, Pakistan and New Zealand and a conflict resolution researcher from the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at Otago University.

The deadline for papers/abstracts has now been extended by popular demand until September 17. Other workshop/industry/poster presentation proposals are due by September 30.

Double blind peer reviewed papers will be considered for the May 2011 edition of Pacific Journalism Review research journal www.pjreview.info and all abstracts and other papers will be published on the Conference Proceedings in the new Pacific Media Centre website resource @ AUT going live in October.
