WELLINGTON (RNZ Mediawatch/Pacific Media Watch): Reaction to the jihadist attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo earlier this month has been featured today on Radio New Zealand's first Mediawatch programme for this year.
Presented by Colin Peacock, the programme features responses from various New Zealand media, the Auckland-based Pacific Media Centre's Professor David Robie (@ 8m37s) - along with the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders - and the NZ Media Freedom Committee.
It also includes an interview with former MFC chairman Tim Pankhurst (@ 9m23s), who was editor of the Dominion Post at the time of republishing the controversial Prophet Muhammad cartoons from the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten.
The programme discusses what the tragedy might mean for media freedom; and also a confusing case of sponsored content; wet pants, unclaimed undies, bowel batteries - some stuff making news this summer when not much else was happening.
