AUCKLAND (Pacific Media Centre): Three Pacific journalism students have been hosted at AUT's Pacific Media Centre while on a two-week exchange in New Zealand organised by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation.
The students are Pauline Mago-King of Papua New Guinea's Divine Word University, Kelly Vacala (Fiji National University), and Bethel Peato (National University of Samoa).
They toured the School of Communication Studies television studios and editing facilities and also the Media Centre, a hub for journalism, radio, creative advertising and digital media students, with AUT students Mabel Muller and Michael Neilson as their "media tourist guides".
The school publishes Te Waha Nui newspaper, Pacific Scoop and Pacific Media Centre Online websites and broadcasts with Radio Static as well as making television programmes. All sections have state-of-the-art media facilities in the Sir Paul Reeves communicatiions precinct.
The students were welcomed by AUT's Head of Pacific Advancement, Walter Fraser.
Also on exchange have been AUT's TJ Aumua, who has been in Fiji, and Pacific Media Watch contributing editor Alistar Kata (Samoa).
Both PCF programme development manager Leaupepe Taala Ralph Elika and PMC director praised this new Pacific media exchange programme as contributing to building media expertise and networks in the region.
