AUCKLAND (Pacific Media Watch): Student journalist TJ Aumua of Auckland University of Technology has returned from two weeks on an internship in Fiji working in local newsrooms.

Aumua was placed in Fiji as part of a media programme funded by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation as well as support from AUT’s Pacific Media Centre.

Staying in Fiji’s capital city, Suva, and based at the Fiji National University, Aumua had attachments at the Fiji Times, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji Television and Communications Fiji Limited.

“It was a huge learning experience,” Aumua says. “It was an honour working alongside Fiji’s journalists who are energetic and passionate about the growth of their country.

“I have gained a new perspective on Fiji besides it being known as a tropical and romantic honeymoon destination. I want people to know that the youth I met Fiji  were an inspiration.

“They are so well informed on what is happening in their country, socially and politically. They are committed to making Fiji the best place for them and their families to live.”
