Andreas Harsono is a journalist working for Pantau, a media training organisation in Jakarta.
He is currently writing a book, From Sabang to Merauke: Debunking the Myth of Indonesian Nationalism. He travels to various places such as Miangas Island, near Mindanao in the Philippines, or Baa on Roti Island.
He has also visited Aceh, Papua and the Maluku islands. In Kalimantan, he covered the Madurese ethnic cleansing.
Harsono researches discrimination against Chinese minority as well as the communists in Java and Bali.
He helped set up Jakarta’s Alliance of Independent Journalists, the Institute for the Studies on Free Flow of Information and the Bangkok-based Southeast Asia Press Alliance. He is a member of the International Consortium for Investigative Journalists.
In 1999, Harsono was awarded a Nieman Fellowship on Journalism from Harvard University. He publishes his own blog.
