MELBOURNE: The chair of Fiji's Media Industry Development Authority says he hopes military censors can eventually be removed from the country's newsrooms.

But Professor Subramani says he cannot say when that might happen.

The MIDA was appointed by the coup-installed interim government after promulgating a decree it says is aimed at improving the media's objectivity and discipline.

It has been holding meetings with media representatives around Fiji, which Professor Subramani hopes will lead to a two-way dialogue.

Presenter: Bruce Hill
Speaker: Professor Subramani, head of Fiji's Media Industry Development Authority
