In association with AUT University, Tongan master carver and sculptor Filipe Tohi and Māori artist Darryl Thomson will lead carvers from Kiribati and New Caledonia to carve the fourth and final rock sculpture of Pasifika Festival.
Beginning on Monday, March 7, at Western Springs Park, on Motions Road, Eke Pasifika Rock Sculpture will be complete by Saturday, March 12.
Since 2008, the Pasifika Rock Sculpture initiative has been an integral part of the Pasifika Festival and Western Springs Park’s landscape. The previous three sculptures were placed outside residences in Grey Lynn, Westmere and Mangere.
After this year’s festival, all the Pasifika Festival Rock Sculptures will be moved to AUT Manukau Campus, to be displayed outdoors in their grounds on permanent loan.
Pacific Media Centre, thanks to advisory board member and Pasifika student liaison Isabella Rasch, is taking part in the AUT display stand. You will find it near the Pasifika Rock Scultures. If you're a volunteer, contact: Yvonne Brill.
