SYDNEY: Editor-in-chief of The Australian newspaper Chris Mitchell has invited Canberra academic Julie Posetti to visit the offices of The Australian newspaper to observe a news conference, and see operations for herself.
Mitchell’s offer is contained in a legal letter sent to Posetti yesterday, as part of the defamation proceedings that have become known as #Twitdef.
Mitchell also seeks a written apology, denying allegations that he had ever "conducted himself in a manner that was coercive, debilitating, excruciating or tortuous.’’
Mitchell launched proceedings after a former rural writer for The Australian, Asa Wahlquist, spoke at a journalism conference in Sydney last week.
Wahlquist, who left the Oz a month ago, made several comments that are said to be defamatory of Mitchell.
Posetti live-Tweeted the event, meaning she paraphrased the comments on Twitter.
Mitchell has also put forward a plan to engage both Wahlquist and Posetti in mediation.
