YANGON (Reuters/Amnesty International/Asia News Network): Human rights monitors have raised concerns over Myanmar’s media laws as two chief reporters were accused of government defamation, and are now detained in Insein Prison.
Than Htut Aung, chief-executive of Eleven Media Group, and the newspaper's chief-editor, Wai Phyo, are accused of making allegations of government corruption in an article, that was then shared on social media.
Media reports have stated that these arrests would only intimidate the media and that it goes against the democratic processes advocated by the de facto head of government, Ang San Suu Kyi.
