SUVA: (Fiji Broadcasting Corporation/Pacific Media Watch): Work on the Freedom of Information Decree is progressing slowly due to limited resources says the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He made the comment at yesterday’s opening of the Asian Development Bank's accountability mechanism outreach workshop in Suva.

However Sayed-Khaiyum says government has the administrative and political will to ensure Fiji has freedom of information.

“That is very much work-in-progress and also of course with the ADB mechanism that you have in terms of recourse, accountability and transparency, in terms of any complaint mechanisms, we believe that by having a national regime of accountability, national regime of laws that actually sets that culture, that you will find that there is lot more approach to not just having a understanding of what we should expect but also in terms of what we should be doing ourselves.”

The two day workshop is attended by civil servants, non-government organisations and civil societies.
