SUVA: Parents must play an active role in deciding which forms of mass media their children should have access to and closely monitor what they are listening to and what they are watching.
That was the overall view of participants at the Fiji Media Watch workshop on “Media literacy empowerment for a quality lifestyle” yesterday.
At the close of day one of the workshop, one of the participants, Master Saula, told Fijivillage that such workshops should have started four years ago as the impacts of mass media have crept in without proactive steps being taken.
He said it was the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, church and community leaders to instill selective reading among students so that they had access to relevant information which would help them in their education and not be detrimental to their future.
