SYDNEY: Organisations representing freedom of the press in the Pacific have again called on military censors to be removed from newsagencies in Fiji.
The International Federation of Journalists and the Pacific Freedom Forum say official censorship of the country's media reports by the interim military government of Frank Bainimara must be lifted.
The chairman of Fiji's Media Industry Development Authority, Professor Subramani, says the way forward is for both sides to engage in dialogue and agree on guidelines for the future.
But Lisa Williams-Lahari from the Pacific Freedom Forum says that sounds good in theory only.
"It all depends on how you define dialogue...it seems to be with the leader in place and the regime in place," she said.
"It's going to a very one sided conversation and I just hope that they are also open to listening to the other side of the debate." - Australia Network News/Pacific Media Watch
