SUVA (Radio NZ International / Pacific Media Watch): The Fiji interim government is looking at its legal options to charge the general secretary of the Oceanic Football Confederation, Tai Nicholas, with contempt should he set foot in Fiji.
Fiji Live online says the interim Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, made the announcement at a press conference in Suva.
This comes after The Fiji Times was taken to court by the Attorney-General’s office for printing comments by Nicholas which was deemed to be derogatory.
The newspaper printed the story despite being censored by the interim government.
Sayed-Khaiyum says Nicholas had made offending remarks about the country’s judiciary system and as a result, the Fiji interim government was looking to have him joined to contempt proceedings against the Fiji Times.
He says the government had heard in media reports that Nicholas would be travelling to Fiji under the auspices of the Fiji Football Association.
