SUVA: Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer Keni Dakuidreketi has resigned.

In a statement, the FRU board interim chairman Rafaele Kasibulu has confirmed that he received Dakuidreketi’s resignation letter.

Kasibulu has told Fiji media that an urgent board meeting has been called to discuss the matter.

But the FRU has declined to accept the resignation of advice from the International Rugby Board (IRB).

Dakuidreketi has in the past condemned "trial by media" by the Commerce Commission over the lottery controversy over FRU's plans for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand this year.

Meanwhile, in another case, FBC News says Dakuidreketi has appeared in the Suva High Court for a ruling on bail variations, allowing him to travel ahead of his court appearance scheduled for mid-February.

He has been charged with conspiracy to defraud the Native Lands Trust Board (NLTB). He was a former director NLTB. - Radio NZ International/FijiVillage.com/Fiji Times/Pacific Media Watch
