JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post / Pacific Media Watch): The Indonesian Press Council has met with the country's new President, Joko Widodo, but details of the meeting are sketchy so far.
The Jakarta Post reported only that Press Council chairman Bagir Manan met Widodo on Monday, saying that Widodo had "to know everything related to the Press Council and how our journalists work".
The Indonesian Press Council has links with the Indonesian government.
Earlier this year, it entered into a three-year written agreement with a government agency to develop government-approved guidelines on how journalists cover "terrorism".
This after Indonesia’s National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) criticised journalists who covered "anti-terror raids" live, often broadcasting the killing of suspected "terrorists" by Indonesian authorities in these raids.
Last month, the Indonesian Press Council urged the government must deport French journalists Thomas Charles Dandois and Valentine Bourrat, who were arrested in West Papua on August 6 and who still remain in custody.
