AUCKLAND (Pacific Media Watch): Pacific Media Centre members today welcomed a delegation from the Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF), led by chief executive Laulu Mac Leauanae, at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
PMC director Professor David Robie said the gathering was an important way to form links between organisations.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to host such an important group," he said.
"It is an excellent example of Pacific networking and we look forward to working with them in the near future."
He was delighted that the PMC was resuming relations with the PCF at a time when the foundation was pursuing stronger media initiatives.
The six members of the PCF were given a tour of the facilities in the state-of-the-art Sir Paul Reeves media precinct building, including the convergent Media Centre and the PMC office.
The PCF is an independent partnership between public and private sectors in New Zealand and other Pacific countries, with the vision to build and enable partnerships in the public and private sector, sharing knowledge and expertise to promote prosperous business and communities in the Pacific.
Changing perceptions
Part of the foundation's goals is to change perceptions of New Zealanders about the Pacific and to enhance media exposure in the Pacific region, through their Pacific Engagement and PCF Media Programmes.
AUT postgraduate student journalist TJ Aumua said meeting with "like-minded" people was important for Pacific students as well.
"A part of the PMC's agenda is to promote Pacific initiatives, achievements and success," she said.
"It was great to meet people who promote similar initiatives through trade and business, where media and journalism plays an important role."
