AUCKLAND (Radio New Zealand International / Pacific Media Watch): Three experienced Pacific journalists have joined Radio New Zealand International in what is expected to be a boost to the radio station's regional news coverage.

RNZI announced today that it had appointed Koroi Hawkins, Koro Vaka’uta and Indira Moala as staff journalists.

Hawkins is well known in the region as a former freelance journalist, broadcaster and photographer from Solomon Islands who will work for RNZI in Wellington.

Vaka’uta previously worked for RNZI but has been in the Cayman Islands for the last seven years. He has recently returned home with his family and also takes up a journalist position with RNZI in Wellington next week.

And Moala has previously worked for the ABC’s Asia Pacific News Centre in Melbourne and now joins RNZI in Auckland.

"All three bring a great wealth of experience and skills to our operation and their arrival completes an appointment process for vacancies that attracted well over 100 applications from around the Pacific and New Zealand. They’re a great addition to the RNZI family," said RNZI manager Linden Clark.

RNZI has a reputation for an in-depth and wide-ranging coverage of the Pacific.
