PORT MORESBY (Radio New Zealand International / PND Edge / Pacific Media Watch): People in Papua New Guinea's West New Britain province have been deprived of one of the country's main TV stations, EMTV, after a decoder cable was stolen.

PNG Edge reported that the decoder cable was cut off and stolen over the Easter weekend.

West New Britain's Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel, appealed to communities living around Mt Dufaore to report the theft.

The estimated cost of restoring transmissions is about US$100,000.
