CANCUN, Mexico: Youth representatives from around the world - who have gathered in Cancun, Mexico. to push for action on climate change– have made a symbolic count from 1 to 21,000 to mark what they say are the 21,000 climate related deaths in 2010.
Holding banners and linking arms, the youths counted outside while country delegations negotiated and poured over the final text inside.
Also part of the count was 18-year-old Fijian Romina Datt from Votualevu in Nadi, who told FBC News in Cancun that she was angry and disappointed at the lack of commitment on climate change.
“So far I’m so angry because nothing has been coming out – there is no legally binding agreement for us – and in the Pacific, we are the most vulnerable countries but leaders are not stepping up to save us.”
The count to 21,000 is expected to take a few hours.
As FBC News sent the report from Cancun, the count had reached 5,000 and the youth had been counting for almost two hours.
