SUVA (Australia Network News / The Fiji Times / Pacific Media Watch): Regional news groups have converged on Fiji for this week's Pacific Media Summit.
The event is being held at Pacific Harbour and is being hosted by the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA), the region's main media body.
It is the second Pacific Media Summit to be held by PINA.
PINA's decision to hold the summit in Fiji has not been without controversy because of the censorship of local media by the Fiji interim government.
The keynote address will be delivered on Tuesday night by Fiji's interim prime minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.
Pacific Beat's Bruce Hill has travelled to Fiji for the event and says there has been a big turnout, particularly among Melanesian countries.
The Fiji Times reports workshops leading up to the summit are on topics such as anti-corruption, sports, climate change, millennium development goals and non-communicable diseases. The summit will also include the election of new office bearers.
More than 100 people are expected for the conference.
