SUVA (Fiji Broadcasting News/Pacific Media Watch): A former broadcast journalism lecturer and media centre broadcaster of the University of the South Pacific, Patrick Craddock, is returning to Suva to take up the journalism coordinator's post.
Craddock replaces Dr Ian Weber who resigned last week.
Craddock has worked for nearly 20 years in different countries in Africa and the Pacific teaching radio journalism, writing scripts and producing radio drama for adult education.
Dr Matthew Thompson, formerly of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper will take up an appointment as lecturer replacing Shailendra Singh who remains on study leave for another six months while completing his journalism doctorate.
The changes were announced to journalism students today.
The Head of the School of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM), Professor Sudesh Mishra, said students had been advised to attend classes and if the need arose there would be extra classes.
Last week, classes were disrupted with the sudden resignation of Dr Weber.
Professor Mishra said Weber had resigned due to "professional differences" with the school.
Dr Weber has explained his resignation on the social networking website Facebook, claiming students had been given waivers from courses to qualify for advanced courses which he thought were not appropriate.
However, Dr Mishra said no formal complaint had been lodged.
Craddock will arrive in the country later this week while Dr Thompson will be in Fiji from next week.
