MELBOURNE (ABC Pacific Beat/Pacific Media Watch): Tongan Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva is defending his call for the national Tomgan Broadcasting Commission to be closed down or sold off.

Pohiva's attack on the TBC has prompted criticism from Tongan media figures and the regional journalists.

The Prime Minister said he had no immediate plans to close the state broadcaster, but he stood by his criticism of its journalists whom he accused of "biased reporting" against his government.
