Elesha Edmonds is an Honours student in the Communication Studies programme and on the Asia-Pacific Journalism course at AUT University.
Following the completion of her Bachelor of Communication Studies in 2013, Elesha studied for six months at the Danish School of Media and Journalism as part of the Inclusive Journalism Initiative (IJI) scholarship.
This experience intensified Elesha’s passion for international news and multimedia journalism. It also sparked her interest in developing innovative ways to increase audience engagement with the news, particularly in an increasingly digital and global age.
Elesha is currently working as a casual reporter for The New Zealand Herald as well as freelancing for a variety of print publications. She has worked as social media coordinator for Tearaway Magazine and in 2012 she won ASPA’s best columnist for her columns in AUT’s Debate magazine.
Alongside journalism, Elesha has a passion for the community and volunteers as a dance teacher and youth worker. She previously served for two terms as the chairperson of Wellington City Youth Council and is a Queen’s Award recipient.
