Irra Lee

AUT Student Journalist 2018

Irra Lee is a second-year Bachelor of Communication Studies student journalist. She has a keen interest in journalism, public relations, and filmmaking. She was born in the Philippines and immigrated to New Zealand with her family at the age of six.


Her studies in journalism have seen her report on a range of topics, from AUT’s Te Reo course to an artist exploring her immigrant identity through photography.

Her recent documentary, A Migrant’s Story, gives insight into the experiences of skilled migrants from the Philippines living in New Zealand.

Irra Lee also contributes to AUT’s student magazine Debate.

Outside of her studies, Irra is passionate about advocating for youth perspectives and participation in local body politics, with a particular interest in exploring the role of social media and public relations strategies in helping to increase youth engagement.

Her enthusiasm in this area has led to the development of her skills in writing and digital content creation.
