Johan Chang is a postgraduate student journalist at AUT University on the Asia-Pacific Journalism course.
Born in Taiwan, he came to New Zealand at age of 7 in 1995, having spoken zero English previously.
He majored in a BA in English Literature and Film Studies from the University of Auckland.
Johan graduated in 2009 to become an linguist/translator working at Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan with a mechanical engineering lab specialising in nano-materials technology.
He decided return to New Zealand in early 2012 and pursue a career in journalism.
Main areas of interest for Johan are feature writing for print, although he would like to eventually become a documentary filmmaker working out of North Africa or Middle East conflict zones.
Johan wants to use his experience from Taiwan and China and report on the influences these political powers have upon the Pacific region.
