Lei Shi is studying towards a Graduate Diploma in Pacific Journalism at AUT University.
During 2013, he has published a number of stories on the TVNZ website, Pacific Scoop and the Bay of Plenty Times. He has also completed an internship at Radio New Zealand.
Prior to the journalism programme at AUT University, he completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English from the University of Auckland. He mainly focused on 19th and 20th century English literature. Lei also did a research project on postmodern authorship and rhetoric. He says he has a particular interest in narrative structures and writing techniques that influence reading experiences.
Lei also calls himself an organic chemist. He has worked as an analytical chemistry technician in Lower Hutt, and as a synthetic chemistry research assistant for Victoria University of Wellington.
Born and raised in Beijing, China, Lei has been living in New Zealand for more than a decade.
