Niklas Brandt Pedersen is a Danish student on the Inclusive Journalism Initiative (IJI) programme in New Zealand and chosen for a Fiji internship.

He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and started studying journalism at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in 2012.

Alongside his studies, he produced and hosted his own radio show Libero at the student radio. The show featured different co-hosts and the subject was European football.

In 2013, he joined the national public broadcaster Danish Broadcasting Corporation for his journalistic internship.

Over the next year and a half, he produced more than 100 news reports for the most watched news programme in Denmark as well as live transmissions in television and radio and articles for the website.

He stayed on as a freelance journalist at Danish Broadcasting Corporation after his internship ended in January 2015 and produced news articles for the website, while he continued his studies at Danish School of Media and Journalism.

Pedersen was accepted on the IJI programme and travelled to Auckland, studying journalism on a postgraduate level at AUT University.

He has previously reported on the consequences of climate change from a European perspective and he hopes to continue on this track in his Asia-Pacific venture.

With a deep passion for understanding how the media works and operates in different parts of the world, he visited Rio de Janeiro on a study trip in 2014 to understand the media reality in Brazil and South America.

Now he hopes to do the same thing in the Asia-Pacific region.
