Island leaders say Anzac sanctions too tough
World attention has been focused on the Pacific region this week as the Pacific Islands Forum marks its 40th anniversary.
While the United Nations chief and a top-level American delegation looked for progress on climate change and economic development, the subject of Fiji again loomed large.Fiji has now been re-admitted to Pacific trade deal talks, but the new forum chairman, John Key, denies New Zealand’s stance is softening and says re-admitting Fiji to the forum was not on this year's agenda.
But there is growing dissension from island leaders who feel that New Zealand and Australian sanctions are too tough.
