VIT Journalism Programme

The courses under this programme provide graduates with practical skills and knowledge in print, electronic and broadcast journalism. The courses have both practical and theoretical elements and offer students the skills necessary to gain employment as journalists and media officers.

Admission Requirements: Students seeking entry into the Certificate course should have completed at least the Junior Secondary School Certificate and have good results in Maths, French and English with an average of at least 50% or above in all subjects.

Entry into the Diploma course will be for students who have successfully completed the Certificate Course.

Certificate In Journalism – 1 year
This course is completed in one year of full-time study. In order to graduate, students are required to complete twelve (12) modules.

The core Journalism modules in the Certificate Course include Basic News, Civics for Journalism, Computing, English Grammar, Values and Ethics, Research Skills, Advocacy and Government Information, Broadcast Journalism, Investigative Journalism, Political Journalism, Writing for Print. 
Internship  *(All students will complete an industry work placement to provide them with practical work skills in Journalism)

Diploma In Journalism – 1 year

This course is completed in one year of full-time study. In order to graduate, students are required to complete eleven (11) modules.

The core Journalism modules in the Diploma Course include Beat Reporting: Sport, Health & Environment, Beat Reporting: Police, Courts, Parliament, Principles of Law and Media
Regional and Global Development Issues, Sales, Marketing and Program Promotion, Business and Economics reporting, Media Organisations, Pacific Islands Traditions & Culture, Page akeup & Designs, Team Building, Communication and Mentoring, Website Design & Management.
Internship *(All students will complete an industry work placement to provide them with practical work skills in Journalism)
