This honours thesis is in two parts - a video journalism feature production and an exegesis exploring the practice of constructing the story:

Production:
We are not refugees is the product of months of planning and researching and two weeks spent in Kiribati from July 20 to August 3 as well as one week in Fiji from July 12 to July 20. Lauren Day undertook the project alone and worked solo to film, record sound, conduct interviews, script and edit the video and the result is her own work. An audio version of the story will be broadcast and published online for German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle and she is currently negotiating with both SBS Dateline and ABC News 24 about the possibility of broadcast and/or online publication.

Exegesis:
Linking her own reflections on the experiences of producing the video journalism piece We are not Refugees and relevant scholarly literature, this exegesis explores the issue of source selection for my feature and factors which influenced it. Source selection is an integral part of the construction of journalism and therefore it was chosen as a significant element in the production process for reflective analysis.
