SUVA: The Roko Tui Cakaudrove Ro Aca Mataitini has expressed concern with newspaper coverage of the Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting – particularly the focus on witchcraft which made the front pages on Thursday.

Newspapers led their coverage reporting Cakaudrove paramount chief the Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu calling on those engaged in witchcraft in the province to stop the practice.

Ro Mataitini claims Ratu Naiqama mentioned the witchcraft issue only briefly.

He says there were better issues in Ratu Naiqama’s speech which could have been highlighted

The Roko Tui says leaders are trying to forge a way forward and maintain respectful relationships and it is the media’s responsibility to publish what it is more important to the public.

He says the statement on witchcraft was only for those at the meeting to disseminate within the province

He adds there were more pressing development issues within the province that was more important to publicise. - Fiji Broadcasting Corporation/Pacific Media Watch
