SUVA: Fiji's Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration, Ratu Epeli Ganilau last night tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
In making the announcement, Permanent Secretary for Information Sharon Smith-Johns said she was not aware of the reasons behind Ganilau's resignation as the letter had gone to the Prime Minister's office.
"Only the Prime Minister can make comments on that once he is back from China," she told FijiLive.
Smith-Jones has confirmed that Minister for Primary Industry Joketani Cokanasiga is now the Acting PM and he is also the Acting Minister for Defense, Immigration and National Security.
Meanwhile Smith-Johns has also rejected claims that Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Lt Colonel Pio Tikoduadua had also resigned from office.
"This is just a rumour and it should be stopped," she added.
The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will return from his trade mission visit in China early next week.
