PAPE'ETE (RNZ Pacific/Pacific Media Watch): French Polynesia's two newspapers will have no print editions until next week.

La Dépêche de Tahiti and Tahiti-infos are awaiting a shipment of newsprint from New Zealand this week.

La Dépêche has been the only local daily newspaper for sale since 2014 when the territory's oldest newspaper Les Nouvelles de Tahiti ceased publication after 57 years.

It is not immediately clear what has caused the newsprint supply problem.

The printing shop for the two newspapers should be restocked for Monday's edition to be issued as usual.

Both papers have apologised to their readers and asked them to get their news on their websites and Facebook pages.
