PORT VILA (Vanuatu Daily Post/Pacific Media Watch): Kizzy Kalsakau is the latest participant in the US Department of State’s Edward R. Murrow Programme for Journalists – Research and Investigation.
The programme runs from September 23 to October 11, 2019 and will start in Washington, DC, then travel to New Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New York.
Kalsakau is a news anchor and reporter with the 96.3 Buzz FM, the radio arm of the Vanuatu Daily Post, and host of one of the most popular talk radio programmes in Vanuatu.

Named for famed American journalist Edward R. Murrow, this media-focused programme will explore the role that journalists play in US society as they investigate issues, raise awareness, and inform the public about corruption, graft, abuse of power, and other issues that impact government, local communities, business, the environment, health, safety, and society.
Participants will explore the values and ethics that underlie journalistic investigations and the impact of investigative journalism on U.S. history and current politics and society.
They will also assess the impact of social media, citizen journalism, and alternative forms of reporting within the context of providing factual, accurate, and verifiable information.
Participants will also explore the efforts by communities and experts to fact check all news to ensure the sustainability of accuracy in news reporting.
“I hope to learn from other media on how to investigate, and how to get into people to get what I want for my story,” said Kalsakau.
The International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) is the US Department of State’s premier professional exchange programme.
The goal of the IVLP is to provide firsthand knowledge about US society, culture, and politics, while cultivating lasting relationships.
By connecting current and emerging leaders from around the world with their American counterparts, IVLP fosters lasting relationships and helps strengthen US engagement with international partners.
