Journalism lecturer Lyn Barnes in AUT University's School of Communication Studies is one of 14 recipients of a Dart Fellowship to head to Columbia University in June.
Journalists from around the world apply each year for an intensive course on trauma journalism.
Lyn has been looking into how graduate journalists cope with the real world, covering unpleasant events such as car accidents to child abuse court cases.
She is the only fellow to be selected from Australasia this year, and will join journalism educators from Spain, Norway, Asia, the UK and the US.
The Dart Centre focuses on not only helping journalists cope with trauma, but also on how to deal with trauma victims so they are not "revictimised". - Faculty of Creative Industries newsletter, AUT
