Kathmandi, Nepal, April 22-25Documentary maker Sophie Johnson and artist Tanya Ruka from AUT University's Design and Creative Industries faculty and Te Ara Poutama are representing Aotearoa/New Zealand at the Nepal Indigenous Film festival this Easter weekend. Sophie will be filing a daily blog - watch for her reports.

SOPHIE'S BLOG: HONG KONG: First of all, I should introduce you to my friend Reti Minhinnick, a.k.a. 'Lei', who is accompanying me on this trip.

She is the daughter-in-law of the woman in my documentary, Nganeko Minhinnick, so it's great to have someone from the whanau to support me (and help me around this confusing airport).

We have been up for 16 hours - got to Auckland airport at 5am; 12 hour flight to Hong Kong; and now awaiting our next flight through to Kathmandu,  Nepal.

We will arrive in Nepal at 10:15pm (their time - 5am next day NZ time!), from which we are being escorted straight to our hotel. I'm sure by that time we will be well due for a sleep, and tomorrow we are attending the inauguration at the City Hall.

I am wearing a piupiu and korowai kindly supplied by Hohepa Spooner and Ella Henry from Te Ara Poutama. Thanks guys!

Until tomorrow, ka kite whanau.

Sophie
